Q: Have you had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with and then “broke up” with later on in either the series or a stand-alone book? Tell us about him or her.
I'm pretty sure quite a few characters have disappointed me before, but I can't think of a single name right now. Not for the life of me. LOL.
But I can say that all whiny, weak, brainless and too dependent heroines can really ruin a book for me. Oh, and violent/rude/disrespectful male characters.
I'm curious now. What character disappointed you?
Oh, and if you're a new follower, please let me know and I'll follow back. :)

I had a hard time too. But I agree with your descriptions of characters that can ruin a book.
ReplyDeleteNew Follower!!
I completely degree about those types of characters. Especially with the description of the heroine. I prefer the strong, smart, independent characters.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm a new GFC Follower.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, nothing is worse than a whiny dependent heroine and a rude male character. (unless his name is William Herondale) lol
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting my site! I'm an old follower of yours wishing you a Happy Reading weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe Scarf Princess
I feel the same about heroines. I have no respect for dependent women.
ReplyDeleteNew Networked Blogs follower. My FF.
New Follower! I totally agree with you on that one! Those type of characters can get annoying!

Stupid characters earn my hatred every time. Old follower! My Follow
ReplyDeleteHopping through. It was hard to think of an answer to this. You summed up character types well.
ReplyDeleteMy Hop
It took me a while to think of one too because once I love a character that usually stays with me. I agree that weak willed and whiny heroines / disrespectful heroes are a huge turn off.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Follow Friday. Stop by if you get a chance.
I had a difficult time with this one, too! But betrayal is what always gets me to hate a character, lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
Jamie@Addicted2Heroines
I hear ya! Heroines can get pretty annoying. It's a fine line the authors have to walk lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks a BUNCH for stopping by Book that Thing.

Thanks for stopping by - happy to return the follow. For some reason, and maybe it's because I was just looking at my DNF shelf, the answer to this one came to me pretty easily.
ReplyDeleteBob @ Beauty in Ruins
Hopping through~~!
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time thinking of one too! And aren't rude, supposedly witty male characters a trend now? I like witty, I hate rude, so I totally understand you.

Amen to that. Very tired of weak whiny girls and alpha males. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteAmen!!! It makes you wonder what we are trying to teach our teenage girls (and boys by proxy) with these weak, whiny, brainless, and fully dependent on men characters. Honestly, it's sad.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! Returning the follow ^_^
sinn @ sinnful books
Whiny and depended heroins are a big turn off for me too!! I'm trying to stay away from those books, but i seem to pick very badly... ^^'

I was curious to see everyone's answers too. This was a hard one -- and it seems like it was for a lot of people. Thanks for visiting and enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same! Whiny females are the easiest way (besides instaluv) for a book to piss me off and make me want to quit reading it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, I'm following back via NB :)
Jessi @ Auntie Spinelli Reads
Thanks for stopping by earlier today! I'm glad no characters have really disappointed you yet, or at least any you can think of! I followed back :).

Oh I totally agree with you on that! Can't stand those types of heroines or male characters, I mean snarky/sarcastic characters don't bother me but outright rude and disrespectful ones totally do.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my blog :) I'm a new follower now and looking forward to hopping by your blog in the future :D

I agree. I can't root for a character who I wouldn't like IRL. And a guy who is even remotely a jerk OR sexist, another no.

ReplyDeleteThanks for following :D
Following you back !
Thanks for stopping by my blog & following! I'm returning the favor! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on weak & whiny heroines. I have a tendency to want to throw books with them at the wall! But they are usually annoying from the get-go so I don't tend to break up with them.
Jenny @ Into The Morning Reads
Compeltely agree with your answer!! Following back, hope youäre having a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteJuli @ Universe in Words
Returning the follow :) And I completely agree with the weak females and rude overbearing males. Ugh!

Thanks for stopping by! Returned the follow. :)
ReplyDeleteOh that's so true. Amazing how a character like that can turn a book that's otherwise fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my FF :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower btw!:)
Sort of a hard question to answer. But these books we read are so dependent on great characters that when they're as you described it can ruin everything, even with a good plot, etc. Great answer!

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog the other day.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your parameters of what makes for an annoying character. Is it me or do those violent / rude / disrespectful male characters seem to populate a lot of books these days? Sometimes I can grow to like them, others I just wanna punch 'em in the face!
Happy Belated Friday! Thanks for stopping by my blog :) I'm sorry for the late reply, have been pretty busy this few days :) I followed you via GFC and Networked blogs, looking forward to more of your post.
ReplyDeleteNatasha @ Dreamland Teenage Fantasy
Yes, those males! You just want to put them in a vat of boiling oil :) New follower :) Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
